Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, with a special interest in migration and refugee issues, I’ve closely followed the work of local organizations providing humanitarian assistance to prevent migrant deaths along the southern border. The Arizona Open GIS Initiative for Deceased Migrants provides spatial data about migrant deaths. The information can be jarring and unsettling, but I believe it’s an important story to tell. I created this data story to raise awareness about migrant deaths.
